Sirens
It’s said they steal the memories
Of shipmates on the sea
And utilize the harvest then
To lure their company

The sirens of the sea entice
With stolen imagery
Captured then with baited line
Draw sailors from the sea

Harbored in the minds of men
The reminiscent life
Drawn to follow readily
Like Peter Piper’s fife.

The lore of high sea tales told
Abandoned ship and sail
The Triangle and Moby Dick
And Jonah and the whale

Beware the sirens of the sea
Who’ll steal your thoughts and dreams
Enticing then with wistfulness
That’s never as it seems
